2019 Kia Stinger vs. 2019 Ford Fusion Sport Comparison
2019 Kia Stinger
Starting Price: $34,115 | Price Yours
Above Average: Excellent, precise steering; unbeatable warranty; plenty of power; great suspension, strong performance
Below Average: New model, so resale value is yet to be determined; entry-level model is well priced, but costs increase quickly
Consensus: With the 2019 Stinger, Kia has a true sport sedan, from its fantastic-sounding and powerful turbocharged engine to its excellent and responsive steering and a chassis that’s tight but doesn’t make you feel every bump in the road. The Stinger’s liftback design also makes it practical for carrying plenty of cargo. It comes at a very competitive starting price but moves quickly into Audi and BMW territory once you move up to a bigger engine and add options.
2019 Ford Fusion Sport
Starting Price: $40,910 | Price Yours
Above Average: Great looks, comes standard with numerous driver-assist technologies, all-wheel drive standard, respectable resale values
Below Average: Expensive, seats five, but three-across rear bench is tight; starting to show its age
Consensus: Powered by a potent twin-turbocharged V6 making 325 horsepower connected to standard all-wheel drive, the 2019 Ford Fusion Sport is a midsize sedan with a respectable amount of grunt. Black grille and wheels add an element of menace, and the Fusion comes with a comprehensive suite of drive-assistance features. You pay a premium for it, however, and there are other Fusions that make respectable power for considerably less.
Kia has brought a very competitive new player to the sporty hatchback category with the 2019 Stinger, which offers throaty engines, superlative steering, and an excellent suspension that is fun in the curves but doesn’t sacrifice ride comfort. Combine that with an exciting optional V6 engine and Kia’s legendary warranty and you have a serious new player in a competitive segment.
The 2019 Ford Fusion Sport, on the other hand, has been around for awhile. It’s the twin-turbo V6-powered version of Ford’s midsize sedan, with blacked-out wheels and sporty looks, and makes some decent power. It comes with some nice driver-assist and tech features standard, and has some good driving dynamics, more European feeling than the typical American sedan. It’s a bit tight in the rear for three, although the trunk holds a fair amount of cargo.
RELATED: Ford Fusion Sport Review
V6 Stinger makes similar power and costs the same as the Fusion Sport; wide array of tech and driver-assistance features available.
Kia Stinger Advantages
Bigger and more flexible cargo space; lower starting price; longer warranty.
Ford Fusion Sport Advantages
More horsepower and torque compared to base model; decent resale values, which are unknown with the Stinger.
From the usefulness of its hatchback design to its excellent driving dynamics and sporty looks, the 2019 Kia Stinger wins this one hands down.
Yes, its standard turbocharged 4-cylinder is down significantly on power to the 2019 Fusion Sport, but it’s still great fun to drive. It also starts about $7K cheaper than the Fusion. If you upgrade to the V6 Stinger, the prices—and hp/torque—match up more (and in fact, its price can top $50K fully loaded), yet the case is still strong. Plus, it comes with Kia’s class-leading powertrain warranty.
Unless you have an allegiance to the Blue Oval, the choice is clear if you’re looking for a sporty 5-passenger car.
