Italdesign Automobili Speciali Bows
Representing more a way of making limited run vehicles than a specific model, the first car from Italdesign Automobili Speciali has been unveiled by the Italian design house owned by Audi. The so called “Special Car” by Italdesign is based on a modular carbon fiber and aluminum chassis powered by 5.2-liter V10 engine, which can propel this exotic to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds on the way to a top speed of 205 mph.
Clad in a carbon fiber body, this mid-engine sports car will be limited to five units. The striking looks of this low slung two-seater are inspired by aerodynamics and traditional Italian style. “The exterior is characterized by two sides of the same medal,” said Filippo Perini, who heads innovative design for the firm. “Above the tornado line, the outlines are distinctly softer and smoother in keeping with the Italian Gran Turismo tradition. The lower part is modeled from aerodynamics. To achieve the performance we had in mind, we had to dare beyond all limits from styling and even purely technical points of view. The outcome ensures extremely high impact without ever being design for design’s sake.”
Because of the limited production of the cars, customers will be able to individualize the car to their tastes. But more important, Italdesign believes that it has come up with a process to develop these uniquely tailored vehicles in a timely fashion not only for specific customers of Italdesign, but also other makers who want to develop high-impact low-volume halo cars like this special.
“Important for us was to run this project based on our development and production process for Ultra Low Series Cars,” said Massimo Martinotti, head of project management and business development. “With this and a precise milestone tracking, we achieve outstanding quality and a very short time to market. We think that we can set with this process as a benchmark that we are looking forward to repeating for all current or future OEM partners.”
