Chevrolet has built 100 hydrogen-powered versions of their Equinox SUV and will be putting them into the driveways of select consumers as part of a real-world market research study beginning in 2008. The Equinox Fuel Cell is effectively an electric vehicle that creates its own electricity from hydrogen by means of a fuel cell, and emits only small amounts water from its tailpipe. A majority of the vehicles will be deployed in Los Angeles, where celebrities will count among the program participants.
