Concept: Volvo C30 Recharge

By Editors on January 14, 2008 2:47 PM
Volvo's C30 Recharge offers a clever twist on the hybrid car craze. Known as "series hybrid" technology, the C30 Recharge can run up to 60 miles on a full charge from a standard electrical outlet, at which point a small 1.6-liter engine kicks on to recharge the car's lithium polymer batteries. Drive it less than 60 miles at a time and you'd never have to burn an ounce of gas; just plug the car in at night and the following morning it's ready to go. Electricity is translated into miles per hour via four small electric motors placed at each wheel.
