A Blend of Something for Everyone

The Ford Fusion, updated and restyled inside and out last year, is one of the best-looking midsize sedans out there. What's even more fun than staring at it, however, is watching the Fusion prove itself worthy of our imagination in ways that go far beyond skin deep. For starters, the other top dogs in this class -- Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima -- don't offer all-wheel drive as a possibility. The Fusion is also one of the sportiest handlers of the bunch. Fusion pricing lands right on top of the midsize class leaders, so you won't find a shocking bargain, but you will be driving a car that feels more luxurious than many of the game's other players. This summer, the 2019 Fusion arrives, with updated styling and a vast array of new technology, including the company's Co-Pilot360 driver-assist system.

Driving It

From our review of the 2018 Ford Fusion: "Few cars do as good a job of being all things to all people as the 2018 Ford Fusion. It's one of the few midsize sedans available in all-wheel drive, for starters, and all models benefit from a sporty-feeling suspension and sharp steering."

Going High-Tech

Ford offers a variety of compelling safety and convenience technologies. There's lane-keep assist and pedestrian detection, and the transmission is operated through a rotary dial. Ford's newest version of Active Park Assist helps with parallel, forward or reverse perpendicular parking -- after first finding a space that's the right size for the car. The blind-spot information system can also alert you if there is cross traffic when backing out of a parking space. And there's Ford's excellent Sync 3 entertainment and connectivity system, as well as adaptive cruise control.

The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything: 42 mpg

When the Environmental Protection Agency gives you credit for achieving 42 mpg combined fuel economy, you've got some pretty strong bragging rights. The $26,000 Ford Fusion Hybrid owns those rights, plus an easygoing nature, so if only filling up once a week for your 110-mile round-trip daily commute sounds like heaven, well then, welcome to heaven powered by regular fuel. And if your drive to work is shorter and saner, the Fusion Energi -- a plug-in hybrid (meaning you can plug it in and charge it for short trips like a pure electric car, and/or run it like a regular gasoline-powered hybrid) -- will take you 21 miles on electric power alone. It has a 610-mile range, so you'll almost never have to see a fuel pump.

Ford Fusion Sport

Newest to the Fusion line is the performance-biased Fusion Sport, pictured below. Powered by a 325-horsepower, 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine, the Sport comes standard with all-wheel drive, sport seats, and adaptive suspension.

You Can Afford a Ford Fusion

Kicking off under $23,000, the 2018 Ford Fusion knows its way around affordable elegance. From there, the pricing, standard equipment and options story stretches all the way up to about $42,000 for a fully loaded Fusion Energi Platinum plug-in hybrid. Build and price your own 2018 Ford Fusion or Fusion Energi and we'll give you this week's Fair Purchase Price, 5-Year Cost to Own and more.
