Exterior: Walt Disney World Epcot Test Track Presented by Chevrolet,
  • Fastest attraction in the Disney domain with a top speed of 65 mph
  • Also one of Disney’s longest thrill rides covering nearly a full mile
  • More than 5 minutes long with 34 turns and a three-story incline
  • Pricing starts at $102 (one-day admission to Epcot)
  • Must be 40 inches to ride

Did you know Space Mountain at Disneyland tops out at just 35 miles per hour?

But that's still faster than the Space Mountain at Disney World, which features a different track layout altogether and maxes out at a measly 28 mph.

So if you feel (the need) the need for speed, set your sights on Epcot’s Test Track Presented by Chevrolet and strap yourself in for an open-air joy ride at a full 65 mph.

Although built using the same ride architecture as Disney California Adventure’s Radiator Springs Racers, the Chevy-badged Test Track cars blow the doors off Lightning McQueen by a full 25 mph.

Based on a single trip through the ride -- part of a Chevrolet-sponsored event to drive the Chevy Traverse SUV -- here’s the unofficially official Kelley Blue Book review of Epcot’s Test Track.

You’ll Like This Ride If…

On TripAdvisor, Test Track Presented by Chevrolet receives a strong 4.5 rating and is ranked #43 of 460 things to do in Orlando. Checking Google Reviews, Test Track clocks in with an average 4.6 rating across 2,611 reviews. That’s a solid track record of satisfied customers.

You May Not Like This Ride If...

If you’re expecting an adult-themed Autopia, you might be disappointed to learn the Test Track cars are completely autonomous. There’s not even a bogus steering wheel with which to pretend you’re driving.

Driving Impressions

The ride is rough and the interior is loud, but that’s exactly what you’re looking for in this case. After running through a series of “tests” on which each passenger’s virtual car is scored, the cars make their way outside where they accelerate to 65 mph and barrel full speed into a steep, 50-degree banking turn that wraps tightly around the building. If you’re a fan of high-speed coasters and/or spirited driving, that’s the best part of the ride.

Leather? No. Cupholders? No. Seatbelts? Yes!

The Chevy-badged Test Track cars have no roof, no doors, no windows, and they only come in blue.

Vehicle: Walt Disney World Epcot Test Track Presented by Chevrolet,

Notable Standard Equipment

The Test Track cars don’t have Apple CarPlay, heated seats, automatic climate control or any of the cool features available on modern cars like the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse (we mentioned this was part of a Chevy-sponsored trip, right?).

Notable Optional Equipment

As they do so well, Disney is happy to offer you plenty of opportunities to upgrade your Test Track experience as you exit through the gift shop.

What’s New

Launched in 1999 as Test Track Presented by General Motors, a thorough 2012 update was accompanied by a shift in sponsorship to the Chevrolet brand. In addition, the cars were reskinned and the Chevrolet Design Center was added, allowing riders to compete with each other by designing their own virtual cars.

Notable Feature: Chevrolet Design Center

Design Center: Walt Disney World Epcot Test Track Presented by Chevrolet,

Before the drive, each passenger designs his or her own virtual vehicle on a big touchscreen. In addition to choosing and modifying the vehicle’s color and design, there are four key characteristics to adjust: Capability, Responsiveness, Efficiency and Power. Each rider’s virtual vehicle is then scored at the end of each test section, where everyone can see how they performed against the other passengers.

Notable Feature: Post-Ride Activities

After the ride and before the gift shop, you can take a photo with your virtual car, make a short commercial, check out some (real) Chevy models and more.

Pricing Notes

At last check, a one-day ticket to Epcot runs from $102 to $122 in Value, Regular and Peak pricing increments. Not a cheap outing for a family of four, but few family experiences have a higher long-term residual value than a day at Disney.

From Test Track to Minnie Van

Chevrolet’s partnership with Walt Disney World isn’t limited to Test Track. With four theme parks and dozens of hotels spanning 39 square miles, experiencing the breadth of Walt Disney World requires family transportation and logistics planning. The Chevrolet Traverse “Minnie Vans” are here to help.

Walt Disney World Minnie Van: 2018 Chevrolet Traverse,

In a partnership that also involves the ride-sharing company Lyft, Walt Disney World has rolled out an entire fleet of Chevrolet Traverse 3-row SUVs done up in Minnie Mouse polkadots. The service is seamlessly integrated into the existing Lyft app, so that if you order a ride from within the Disney World service area, you’re automatically offered a Minnie Van as one of your premium ride options. Our family utilized the service several times on our trip, and the drivers were as nice and the cars as clean as you’d expect from a Disney-branded service.

One of our 12 Best Family Cars

Disney’s choice for its new Minnie Van program is also one of Kelley Blue Book’s Best Family Cars of 2018. Comfortable, flexible and accommodating enough to spend day after day shuttling families around Disney World, the Chevy Traverse is pretty stylish and tech-savvy, too.

Our visit to Florida included still more time behind the wheel of the Traverse, including a couple hours travelling to and from Kennedy Space Center (recommended). Almost exactly a year since we first drove the totally redesigned, second-generation Traverse, the miles only reinforced the positive sentiments we’ve captured since.

From our 12 Best Family Cars of 2018 awards: “Inside, the Traverse has gobs of room for families, friends, and all the stuff that goes with them. Cargo space is exceptional, with 23 cubic feet behind the third row, over 58 with the third row folded, and just under 100 with both rear rows down. There are also thoughtful spaces for smaller items, such as the hidden compartment behind the display screen and a bin beneath the rear cargo floor.”

2018 Chevrolet Traverse,

From our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse review: “On the open road, I was able to further explore the benefits of the Traverse's updated 3.6-liter V6 engine. The 310-horsepower engine has 350 fewer pounds of Traverse to haul around, making this big crossover SUV feel downright quick when getting on the freeway. The Traverse never lacked for passing ability on the highway, and there was enough power on tap to squirt past traffic from stop lights without drama. The engine drew attention to itself in two ways, with a surprisingly satisfying -- but not too intrusive -- full-throttle roar, and with the smooth operation of the start-stop system that shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at stoplights.”

From our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse video review and road test: “In basic $31,000 form, the Traverse comes surprisingly well-equipped with keyless entry and push-button start, 3-zone automatic climate control, a wide-angle backup camera, a smart-slide second row seat for easy third-row access and seven airbags including a center airbag that deploys from the inboard side of the driver's seat. The standard infotainment system is a 7-inch unit featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but buyers can also upgrade to an 8-inch system with a lockable storage area behind the screen hiding the Traverse’s elusive seventh USB port. Either way the screen is decently sized, placed within reach and the menus are a cinch to navigate.”

Suffice it to say, if you’re in the stage of life that includes school drop-off lines, soccer practice and Disney excursions, the Chevrolet Traverse is one of the best vehicles you can buy.
