Consensus: Like an oyster, the Chevrolet Malibu has never been better than it is right now, and it's got pearls galore

Quiet, Roomy and Comfortable, the Malibu is Worth Another Look

Treated to stylish sheetmetal and a top-notch options list, the Chevy Malibu is a compelling alternative to midsize staples like the Ford Fusion and Nissan Altima. There are appealing technologies such as built-in internet connectivity, while the powertrain lineup includes a hybrid system rated to deliver up to 49 mpg. Heavy hitters like the sportier Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are all-new for 2018, but the Malibu has the ride comfort and roomy cabin to keep it a strong contender.

Driving in Malibu

From our full review of the 2018 Malibu: "The Malibu’s steering is nicely weighted and direct, delivering good feedback. Our Malibu’s big 19-inch wheel/tire setup should have made for a jarring ride, but happily this was not the case. We credit the well-sorted suspension that absorbs bumps and road distortions as easily as it tackles tight corners and rapid lane changes. While the Malibu’s driving dynamics are not quite up to the standards set by the Mazda6, it certainly feels livelier than the Nissan Altima, Honda Accord or Hyundai Sonata."

Consumer Reviews visitor and Malibu owner Dan had this to say about Chevrolet's midsize sedan: "I like this Malibu a lot. The updated styling looks great and the ride is very comfortable. It has a lot of perks for the money. Lots of room front, back and trunk. I get 31-32 MPG. The only thing that I would change is the size of the fuel tank. It should have much more capacity for a car of this size. Even with the good mileage, fill ups are way too frequent." Read more Chevrolet Malibu consumer reviews.

High-Tech Solutions

The 2018 Chevy Malibu offers built-in 4G LTE internet connectivity, keeping the car connected and allowing it to serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, which make it easier to leverage the capabilities of your smartphone while driving. There’s also a Teen Driver feature that gives warnings when the car goes over preset speeds and mutes the audio system when seat belts aren't being worn.

Hybrid, With Help from Volt

The Malibu's hybrid option uses technology from the Chevy Volt to provide EPA estimated fuel economy of 49 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway. The Malibu Hybrid isn’t a plug-in like the Volt, but it uses the same 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and 2-motor drive unit, good for 182 total horsepower.
