The 2020 Cadillac CT5 sedan, which will replace the 2019 CTS in its lineup will go on sale this fall offering two new powertrains and features like the Super Cruise hands free cruise control.. The CT5 evolves the design of cues of the larger CT6 full-size model that include a shield-shaped grille now flanked by new horizontal headlamps framed by vertical daytime running lights.

The all-new 2020 CT5 also sports a unique notched C-pillar, which is a new styling element for Cadillac. According to Andrew Smith, executive director of global design said "Cadillac's signature hard-edge cues have evolved to a more scupltural and fluid expression of the brand's design language. From every angle, the CT5 exudes athleticism, sophistication and confidence."

New platform and dimensions

The CT5 is built on completely new architecture with a long 116.0 inch wheelbase. The sedan measures 193.8 inches overall and stands 57.2 inches tall and 74.1 inches wide. The 3,660-pound sedan has a fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts up front and a five-link rear setup in the rear, along with 4-wheel disc brakes and electric assist power steering.

Inside, the 2020 CT5 offers seating for five passengers and the modern, clean design consistent with the exterior shape. Cadillac said the controls are simple and intuitive to use and the instrument cluster and 10-inch high definition center screen are focused on the driver.

What engines are used in the CT5?

The 2020 Cadillac CT5 will come with a choice of two engines, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 3.0-liter turbo V6. The standard 4-cylinder engine produces 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and is equipped with direct injection. The V6 makes 335 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque and also has direct injection technology.

Both engines are mated to new 10-speed automatic transmissions that drive the rear wheels. An all-wheel drive option is available on all models.

Three trim levels

The Cadillac CT5 will be offered in Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport models. The Sport variant is differentiated from the other two by replacing brightwork with dark molding and using a dark mesh for the grille and front intakes. The standard wheel on the Luxury model is an 18-inch alloy, while Premium Luxury and Sport models are equipped with 19-inch rims.

Class of 2020: The New and Redesigned Cars, Trucks and SUVs

Cadillac's Platinum package is available on Premium Luxury and Sport models and includes exclusive two-tone Sedona/Jet Black color scheme with Opus semi-aniline leather uphostery. The front seats are heated and ventilated with a massage function and 18-way adjustment. Other features include carbon fiber trim accents, magnesium paddle shifters and a thicker rimmed steering wheel.

What is the fuel economy of the 2020 Cadillac CT5?

While Cadillac has yet to release fuel economy of the new CT5, we expect the numbers to improve over the CTS' fuel economy of 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined for the 4-cylinder model thanks to the use of the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The V6 in the new CT5 is smaller than the 3.6-liter V6 in the CTS and will also likely deliver fuel economy better than the current model's 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway/19 mpg combined.

Pricing and availability

The all-new 2020 Cadillac CT5 will go on sale this fall. Pricing has yet to be announced, but we expect it to be somewhere in the same range at the current 2019 CTS which starts at $47,990 for the 4-cylinder model and $55,690 for the V6 excluding $995 delivery.

Design chief Smith concluded that the CT5 is proof that “We are committed to sedans. Sedans are not dead. Boring sedans are dead.” The CT5 is expected to be followed by another sedan, the compact Cadillac CT4.
