Volvo Goes After the Big Guys with the Luxurious XC90
Following a complete makeover two years ago, this generation of the XC90 is the most luxurious Volvo ever made. Equipped (and priced) to compete head-to-head with popular 3-row luxury SUVs like the BMW X5 and Audi Q7, the Volvo XC90 is also leaner, greener and safer than ever before. With fresh, sculpted styling, an airy cabin filled with premium leather and open-grain wood surfaces, best-in-class safety features and new powertrain choices, including a high-performance plug-in hybrid, the redesigned XC90 attracts the attention of potential first-time Volvo owners.
The new XC90 continues to surprise and delight, as we explain in our full review of the 2018 Volvo XC90: "If you need proof a small engine can power a big vehicle, look no further than Volvo's 4-cylinder. While the automaker recently announced its future vehicles will incorporate electrification, we hope this gem continues to play a role. This gasoline motivator -- namely the T6 variant -- feels at least two cylinders more than it is, and has plenty of guts to get this luxury SUV up to speed. Once there, we found the XC90 quiet and compliant, though its ride remains on the firm side."
Volvo has long been known for its safety innovations, and is often first to market with many of them. With the XC90, there are two new stand-out features: the SUV's new bucket seat design has an energy-absorbing structure that helps minimize injury in the event of a front impact or a run-off-road scenario. The other, called Pilot Assist, ensures your XC90 stays within your lane, while staying at a set distance from the car ahead. Other safety features Volvo is known for, including the optional integrated child booster seat, return for 2018.
