Sharing virtually all of the attitude-enriching themes seen in the automaker's 2014 S60 R-Design sedan, the 2014 Volvo XC60 T6 AWD R-Design also made its global debut in New York. This mid-size 5-passenger all-wheel drive crossover SUV gets an equally tasteful nose and tail tweak that also brings a frameless Tech Matte Black grille with a high-gloss black insert, silk-metal diagonal "iron mark" and a recast R-Design emblem. A new rear diffuser flanked by two large, round R-Design tailpipes are also part of the package, as are new 20-inch alloy wheels.

All three versions of the XC60 T6 R-design (base, Premier Plus and Platinum) are fitted with a 325-horsepower version of the 300-horse/3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 used in the basic T6 AWD models. Here too, the engine is backed with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission incorporating new Advanced Quick Shift software that speeds cog changing and trims the 0-60 mph interval from 6.6 to 6.2 seconds compared to the 2013 model. The beefed-up R-Design suspension - which has a 0.6-inch lower ride height than the standard Dynamic chassis - promises sharper control and responsiveness while maintaining good ride comfort. It also complements the standard Dynamic Stability and Traction Control system with confidence-enhancing torque-vectoring Corner Traction Control.
