Toyota Update: Pedal Fix Approved, Will Start Later This Week

By Editors on February 1, 2010 7:18 AM

Toyota has confirmed that a solution to resolve the sticking throttle problem has been found and approved. As originally reported, it involves fitting a component that will effectively eliminate the potential for friction in the assembly and ensure that the accelerator pedal can return to its fully closed position. The automaker says the reinforcing components are already being shipped to dealers and that repairs will begin on the affected vehicles later this week. Toyota also said that its dealers will be open extended hours to complete this fix as quickly and conveniently as possible for customers. Similar throttle assembly modifications also are being made at the factory level, where production of these same vehicles has been suspended for the week of February 1st in order to apply the fix.
