2011 Mazda MAZDA2

Launching here in July but already a well-established member of Mazda's European and Asian lineups, the entry-level MAZDA2 promises to match an impressive measure of zoom-zoom character with solid value pricing. Reflecting the latest corporate styling cues inside and out, the five-door front-drive hatchback that's headed to America will available in a well-appointed Sport and better-appointed Touring trims, both fitted with a 100-horsepower/1.5-liter that can be teamed with a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission. Although straight-line quickness won't be its strong suit, the automaker is confident that a crisply tuned chassis and sub-$15K base sticker will definitely help the MAZDA2's cause with young, active-lifestyle buyers.
