2019 GMC Acadia

Starting Price: $29,995 | Price yours

Above Average: A stand out in the crowded midsize SUV market, the 2019 GMC Acadia offers an array of safety features, a range of powertrains, a variety of seating configurations, constantly variable suspension and an urban-looking exterior.

Below Average: If you need seating for 8, you have to upgrade to the GMC Yukon. Towing capacity leaves something to be desired.

Consensus: The 2019 GMC Acadia comes in a variety of seating configurations (5, 6, or 7-passenger) and gets a bevy of safety features packed into a sharp looking design.

The 2019 Subaru Ascent is a great first entry into the crowded midsize SUV market and comes standard with AWD. It offers a good combination of sportiness thanks to the 260 horsepower 4-cylinder engine, comfort, safety (EyeSight comes standard), and versatility. It comes with 3-zone climate control and rear doors that open to 75-degrees making getting into the second and third rows a less acrobatic move. The 2019 GMC Acadia is the next size down from the GMC Yukon, that falls in line with GM’s strategy of right-sizing the SUV for its customers. For 2019 GM has upped the game by including available Wi-Fi connectivity and upgrading the infotainment system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GMC Acadia comes in a variety of engine options and front-wheel or all-wheel drive versions. The GMC Acadia is nimble and relatively quick on winding roads and overall, offers a good, solid, midsize SUV driving experience.

Similarities

Well tuned chassis on both vehicles make them pleasant to drive and rather nimble for their size.

Subaru Ascent Advantages

AWD standard, USB ports for every row and 19 (19!) cup holders make the cabin of the Subaru a very comfortable place to be.

GMC Acadia Advantages

Sharp good looks and a variety of seating configurations make the Acadia a customizable midsize SUV that can meet a variety of needs.

Final Recommendation

The GMC Acadia should be considered for its variety of customizable features and layouts, is well-behaved on the road and has a unique look that makes it stand out in a crowd. Though pricier, the Subaru Ascent has standard AWD and stronger resale value.
