Revealed: smart forjeremy Concept - LA 2012
A collaborative effort between smart and renowned fashion designer Jeremy Scott, the smart forjeremy Concept puts a distinctive spin on the new smart fortwo Electric Drive. This zero-emissions version of the diminutive 2-seater gets some major body recasting, most prominently in its tail where the car has grown a set of rather prominent red-illuminated fiberglass wings. The wing motif -- which has become a recurring design element in Scott's work -- symbolizes freedom, and in this case, is meant to indicate how the smart fortwo ED "frees the environment of noxious emissions and symbolizes the new lightness of mobility."
Other unique exterior cues on the smart forjeremy ED Concept include a dazzling white finish set off by a chrome-plated tridion safety cell, prominent fender flares, wider rear tires on custom wheel rims with spokes shaped to resemble airplane propeller blades and a generous dollop of brightwork accents. That airy, light and shiny look carries over to the interior, where white Nappa leather with diamond-tufted central inserts covers the sport bucket seats and door panels and chrome accenting is found on many of the ancillary elements - including the car's open-rim steering wheel.
"We were totally enthusiastic about the first sketches that Jeremy presented to us", said Dr. Annette Winkler, Head of smart, during the world premiere. "Both smart and the wings represent a bit of freedom on the crowded streets of major cities. In their respective disciplines, both the fashion designer Jeremy Scott and the smart brand are pioneering trendsetters, venturing into uncharted territories and challenging the status quo." Winker went on to confirm this will not be the car's one and only appearance. "We will also launch a limited special edition of the smart forjeremy in 2013. And I really look forward to cruising the city in this item of haute couture."
