First seen in Geneva this spring, the Nissan Hi-Cross Concept made its U.S debut in Los Angeles. When this slick hybrid one-off appeared at the Swiss show, it was presented as a design exercise with elements that had very real potential to appear in various Nissan future crossover/SUV products. At the time, it was thought most of that influence would be seen in the next-generation X-Trail, a vehicle not currently sold in America.

At its Los Angeles unveiling, Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc, also reiterated the official corporate position that the Hi-Cross Concept "continues Nissan's exploration of pushing the envelope in a segment, while at the same time staying true to the needs of the customer," However, he went on to note that it may also have more than a passing resemblance to a similar kind of vehicle that will appear here in the not-too-distant future. Although no names were dropped, it now seems likely that beneficiary could turn out be the next-gen Nissan Rogue.
