Making its debut at the New York Auto Show, the all-new 2014 Kia Forte Koup fills out the family lineup with its own unique style and spirit. While sharing a good deal of its basic engineering with the redesigned 2014 Forte Sedan and key powertrain/trim elements with the 2014 Forte 5-door introduced in Chicago, the new Koup provides an even sportier alternative that still retains a good deal of practicality.

Created at the Kia's design studio in Irvine, California, the new Koup's bolder but more sophisticated exterior styling displays a clear kinship with the 5-door model, with the top-line SX getting a more aggressive fascia that includes larger grille and air intakes, gloss-black inserts and carbon-look trim accents. From the B-pillar back the Koup's faster roofline and tidier tail put a unique spin on the mix that's also more evident on the SX, which gains LED taillamps and a unique lower valence with dual chrome exhaust tips. The primo Koup also swaps out the EX-spec 205/55 tires on 16-inch alloy wheels for 225/40 rubber on 18-inch lightweight rims.

Inside, the new Koup features the same basic design elements as the Forte Sedan and 5-door, with an abundance of soft-touch surfaces, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel on a tilt/telescoping column, FlexSteer driver-selectable power assist, Kia's UVO eServices, Bluetooth, SiriusXM Satellite Radio power windows and more. The SX steps up that mix by adding alloy sport pedals and carbon-look seat trim. Both Koup models also offer an impressive array of extras, including HID headlamps, a navigation system with HD Radio, power sunroof, heated steering wheel, 10-way adjustable power driver's seat, heated front seats and cooled driver's seat, leather seating surfaces, dual-zone automatic climate control, SmartKey with push-button start and an electric chromatic rearview mirror.

Like the Forte 5-door, each version of the new Forte Koup gets its own unique powertrain that features a 4-cylinder direct-injected engine. The EX packs a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter that makes 173 horsepower and is backed by a 6-speed automatic transmission while the SX lays claim to being the hottest Koup ever thanks to its turbocharged 1.6-liter that makes 201 horsepower and will let buyers choose between the 6-speed autoshifter or a 6-speed manual alternative. A sport suspension is standard issue for both Koup models, but the more potent SX also gets bigger front brakes.

The 2014 Kia Forte Koup is slated to go on sale during the 4th quarter. Pricing will be announced closer to its arrival in showrooms.
