At some point during our concurrent weeks with the 2008 Chevy Equinox Sport and 2008 Ford Taurus we were struck by how much both of these first-generation vehicles have been improved in their short lifetimes. The Equinox received several upgrades for 2007 and is practically transformed by the 3.6-liter V6, six-speed automatic transmission, hydraulic (not electric) power steering and suspension tweaks that distinguish the new-for-2008 Equinox Sport. The Ford Taurus, which began life as the Ford Five Hundred, has been similarly reborn by Ford's latest six-and-six powertrain.
