Porsche to Offer Limited-Edition Designer-Spec Cayenne

Later this year, the first SUV to receive a remake from the Porsche Design Studio will arrive in the U.S. Officially dubbed the 2010 Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3, this high-end all-wheel-drive hauler is the first non-sportscar to receive Porsche Design Studio attention. Only about 100 of the 1000 to be built will head our way, carrying a base sticker of $89,000. Following in the tradition of the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 and the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2, this exclusive variation on the Cayenne theme will match its unique visuals with numerous comfort/convenience touches, functional tweaks and a pair of dedicated Porsche Design accessories.

Finished in Lava Grey Metallic, this head-turning Cayenne GTS PDE3 package features custom hood/side graphics, a special blackout trim treatment, 21-inch SportPlus wheels, a choose-it-or-not extended roof spoiler and unique badging. Inside, black leather with red contrast stitching dominates and smartly wraps this SUV's more deeply-bolstered power sport seats. To complement the look, black Alcantara trim is fitted to the door panels, headliner and center console. Other features include a 410-watt/14-speaker Bose 5.1 Surround Sound audio package, unique "Porsche Design Edition 3-inch logos on the tachometer and door sills, custom floor mats and a glovebox plaque that indicates the vehicle's spot in the overall build sequence.

Mechanically, the Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 uses the same 4.8-liter/405-horsepower V8 as a regular GTS but backs it with a standard Tiptronic six-speed automatic transmission, a combination Porsche says should take it to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 156 mph. Ride height on the standard air suspension system gets dropped 0.78 inch to match the Cayenne Turbo/Turbo S spec and Rear Park Assist is present to simplify reversing maneuvers.

Two final elements set this limited-production Cayenne apart from all others. Buyers will get a Porsche Design automatic chronograph that reflects the visual cues of the vehicle as well as a custom four-piece luggage set.
