Nissan Altima Hybrid won't be back for 2012

Nissan has confirmed that 2011 will be the last year the current Altima Hybrid will be part of its model lineup. Introduced here in 2007 and using a hybrid system based around Toyota-sourced electrical elements, the green variation on Nissan's mid-size four-door never fully clicked with buyers and has seen its sales numbers get progressively softer with each passing year.

While not ruling out the return of a pure Nissan-designed hybrid alternative at some point, a Nissan spokesperson advised that the automaker plans to focus its efforts on the conventional gasoline powered Altima models starting with the 2012 model year and would offer no additional information on any future powertrain possibilities for the line.
