New Ford website lets you design a 2012 Mustang dream machine

The online toy box for fans of the 2012 Ford Mustang has just grown by one rather creative addition. Accessible at, the Ford Mustang Customizer makes it easy to indulge your creative fantasies by putting together a one-off virtual variation on the basic Mustang V6, GT, Boss 302 or Shelby GT500, and then saving it or sharing it on Facebook. Would-be designers can select from a large number of elements including body kits, wheels, grilles, decklids and unique graphics as well as various existing real-world pieces from the Ford Racing Performance Parts and Ford Vehicle Personalization catalogs. As an extra bonus, the site provides three distinctive environments -- a drag strip, cityscape and drive-in restaurant -- to display the finished product and offers it in five different views.

"Customers love to make Mustang their own, one that suits their taste; this is the perfect way to let them test out their design and imagine what's possible," said Jim Owens, Mustang marketing manager. "The interactive aspect also adds a whole new dimension and lets more people get in on the fun." In addition to offering a "battle mode" that promotes head-to-head faceoffs in a best-of-show style competition, the site also supports a function that keeps track of the various Ford, aftermarket and concept parts used and turns them into a downloadable PDF document that includes links to applicable websites to make it easier for owners intent on turning their dream 2012 Mustang into reality.
