Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration plans announced
The original pony car turns 50 this year, and to properly commemorate that seminal event, Ford Motor Company and the Mustang Club of America (MCA) are inviting owners and enthusiasts to join in what's being billed as the world's largest caravan of Mustangs traveling together. Well, two caravans, to be exact. The festivities, which are expected to draw thousands of vehicles, commence on April 13th in Norman, Oklahoma, where participants can elect to spend the next four days cruising to either Charlotte Motor Speedway or Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The trackside portion of the event formally opens on Thursday and wraps up on Easter Sunday, April 20th.

"The official Mustang 50th anniversary celebration will kick off in the middle of the country so people can enjoy these pony cars as they were intended to be used, on the road," said Ronald D. Bramlett, executive director of the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration. En route to their final destinations, the Charlotte contingent will be stopping for hosted events in Little Rock, Arkansas; Nashville, Tennessee; and Asheville, North Carolina; while those heading to Las Vegas will lay over in Amarillo, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Flagstaff, Arizona. MCA, which is coordinating both of these Pony Drives, notes that individuals who can't make the entire run are still welcome to join either of the groups in one of the host cities.
In addition to various activities that will include a close encounter with the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang as well as on-track hot and parade laps, Ford Ride and Drives, historic displays and evening banquets with special guests, Bramlett points out that each Pony Drive will offer participants a unique "goodie box" filled with "one of a kind, commemorative items specific to the Pony Drives and not available to the general public."
