Mitsubishi Confirms Baby Outlander on the Way for 2011

In addition to presenting its production-probable PX-MiEV plug-in, Mitsubishi execs admitted that a "scaled-down" version of the Outlander will definitely be joining the lineup here in the U.S. for the 2011 model year. While details about this upcoming Outlander Sport crossover remain limited, we do know that it will share a good deal of its exterior styling elements with the Concept cX pictured here, a well-conceived one-off that Mitsubishi first displayed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. While the production version of the Outlander Sport will be a bit larger than the cX, it too, will use a good deal of the current Lancer/Outlander platform architecture and have Mitsu's 2.0-liter four-cylinder MIVEC gasoline engine underhood. Expect this sporty five-passenger CUV to be offered in both front-drive and optional all-wheel-drive configurations.
