Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 is the ultimate off-road rager
Ready to kick sand in the face of anyone or anything pretty much anywhere, the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 represents the pinnacle of performance when it comes to getting down and dirty. Based on a highly modified G-Class - which rolls off the line with some pretty serious all-terrain capabilities of its own - the G63 AMG 6x6 pushes the envelope of unstoppable invincibility to an entirely new level while providing a full measure of comfort and luxury to all within.
At the heart of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 is the G63's 5.5-liter twin-turbo AMG V8 that makes 544 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque. It's backed by an AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic with low-range transfer case that sends power to all six wheels via a conventional G63 setup at the front and a twin-axle rear-drive package that's used on various G-Class models built for military use.
To ensure the G63 AMG 6x6 can keep on going where others fear to tread, this 8,487-pound ultra-runner also features portal axles that help increase ground clearance to nearly 15.8 inches, five differential locks that can be engaged on the fly, 37-inch all-terrain tires that also offer real-time pressure adjustability and a bespoke G-based suspension with custom springs and driver-adjustable shock absorbers. That formidable combination lets this maxi M-B charge up sand dunes with alacrity, rock walk with confidence and amble through 40 inches of water, when necessary.
Like any AMG package, this attitude-rich pickup features a host of hard-edge cosmetic touches, including a unique twin-blade grille treatment, carbon fiber wheel-arch flares, a rugged stainless steel rollover bar and a solid bamboo bed liner. Despite its bad-to-the-bone character, the cabin of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 is a well-isolated and elegantly tailored realm that offers the kind of amenities you'd expect to find in a typical M-B luxury sedan. Four individual, power-adjustable heated/cooled seats can be covered in diamond-quilted red or light brown designo leather to match the rest of the passenger compartment. Passengers in the aft quarters also get their own center console with covered storage.
While officially referring to it as a "near-series show vehicle," the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 is reportedly heading to a very limited production run of 20-30 units annually with buildup to be done at the dedicated "G" facility in Graz, Austria. Pricing is expected to start around $450,000 with delivery of the first retail units due to commence in October.
