Say hello to the GLE.

Mercedes-Benz's M-Class, now known as the GLE, first arrived last year, with new engine choices, different styling cues and a new coupe-like variant. But at its core, the Mercedes-Benz GLE is still every bit the comfortable, refined and well-appointed Mercedes-Benz the M-Class was. This midsize luxury SUV offers more ground clearance and a higher seating position than most of the other vehicles wearing a three-pointed star. In anticipation of an all-new GLE arriving for 2018, the biggest change to the 2017 model is the addition of the AMG GLE43; also, a rearview camera is standard on all models, and the diesel engine option has been dropped.

Driving It

The GLE is available with five very different powertrains, including a hybrid and three high-performance variants. But as our 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE full review notes, "All 2017 GLE models are comfortable and easy to drive, whether it's the base GLE350, or the fire-breathing AMG GLE63 S. That means your choices are dictated by engine, and there's a wide variety here."

Alternative Versions

The plug-in hybrid GLE550e 4MATIC offers 18 miles of electric-only range. If you prefer something with copious amounts of power and a sporty suspension, AMG has put its signature on the 364-horsepower GLE43, the 550-horsepower GLE63 and the 577-horsepower GLE63 S.

2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE

While the transition from M-Class to GLE involved relatively minor updates, there is an all-new GLE just around the corner. The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE is expected to arrive for the 2018 model year, on a new platform with new powertrains, including AMG models and a hybrid.

Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe

Just as BMW's X5 has a swoopy coupe-like counterpart in the X6, so does the GLE. The GLE Coupe brings together some of the cargo capacity, ride height and all-wheel drive of an SUV with looks and performance more like that of a sports sedan. Build and Price

The GLE has a starting price of about $53,000, topping out at more than $130,000 for a Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S with all the bells and whistles. Build and price your own 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE or Mercedes-AMG GLE to unlock its Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price, 5-Year Cost to Own and more.
