A legendary off-roader for modern times.

Fresh-faced, fuel efficient and nimble, the all-new 2017 Land Rover Discovery is a far cry from the LR4 it replaces, yet still stays loyal to Land Rover tradition. Although slightly larger and roomier than its predecessor, the Discovery’s all-new platform renders it significantly lighter. But the Disco's newfound agility and refined highway ride do not take anything away from this SUV's best-in-class off-road capability, and electronic aids make it even easier to go exploring. In addition to a gasoline-powered V6 engine, the Discovery also offers a V6 diesel engine.

Driving It

From our full review of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery: "The Landy's new lightweight architecture makes it feel far more nimble, while its rounded shape is more aerodynamic -- and quieter -- than its predecessor. The standard supercharged V6 gasoline engine is a fine choice that readily moves this sizable SUV, with 0-60 mph pegged at 6.9 seconds. But we really like the optional diesel engine for its torque and fuel economy of up to 26 mpg."

Terrain Response 2

The Discovery is one of the best off-road SUVs out there, but Land Rover has made the vehicle's capability easy to harness for your specific driving needs. The Discovery uses the latest version of Terrain Response, which has a dial with icons that show different types of terrain, such as snow, rocks or ruts. Simply match the type of ground you want to cover with the icon, turn the knob, and Terrain Response 2 does the rest.

Towing Made Easier

The Discovery can tow up to 8,201 pounds, and available features make towing less stressful. Tow Hitch Assist uses the surround camera system to display guidelines as you bring the Discovery closer to a trailer's tow ball. When it comes time to park what you’re towing, Advanced Tow Assist makes it easier to back the Discovery and trailer into place with more intuitive steering control via the Terrain Response 2 knob. With Rear Height Adjust, you can use switches to lower the trailer height when loading or unloading gear.

Build and Price

The Discovery has a starting price of about $51,000, topping out at about $89,000. Build and price your own Land Rover Discovery to unlock its Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price, 5-Year Cost to Own and more.
