By some accounts, the Ford Fusion offers the best combination of ride, handling and feel in the entire mid-size sedan category. Plus, its SYNC infotainment system is without equal and its quality and reliability ratings are world-class. Now that Ford has updated the Fusion's powertrain, sheetmetal and interior, it could very well become one of our favorite cars in the class. Highlights of the significant freshening include a bolder face, a more detailed rear end and a passenger cabin filled with more contemporary styling and higher-quality materials. The powertrain story is a long one: in addition to a new six-speed automatic transmission, the lineup now includes a 175-horsepower four-cylinder and 240-horsepower V6 engines, both of which are more powerful and more efficient than their predecessors. New to the lineup are the Fusion Sport, which features a bigger, 263-horsepower V6, and the Fusion Hybrid, which Ford claims bests the Toyota Camry Hybrid in city fuel economy by six mpg. Cool tech bits include a blind-spot warning system, cross-traffic alert and, of course, the latest SYNC infotainment system.
