After a year of absence from the U.S. minivan wars, the 2014 Kia Sedona is set to make its return for 2014. While an all-new iteration may be lurking about somewhere in the future, this particular comeback kid is a largely carryover version of the front-drive/7-passenger people mover that last appeared in Kia showrooms during the 2012 model year.

Offered in LX and EX trims, the 2014 Sedona does feature a modest cosmetic revamp that includes a tweaked front fascia and grille, new LED positioning lights and standard fog lamps on both versions with the EX getting new 17-inch alloy wheels that are LX options as a step-up from the standard 16-inch steel rims. Inside the spacious and well-appointed cabin -- cloth-covered in LX and leather-lined in EX guise -- remains unchanged save for the addition of a new storage console for iPads and other smart tablets. Like its 2012 predecessor, the sole powertrain for the 2014 Sedona matches the familiar 269-horsepower/3.5-liter V6 engine and a 6-speed Sportmatic automatic transmission. That combo nets 17/24 mpg EPA stats.

Beyond an extremely flexible/reconfigurable passenger compartment, key standards on the Sedona LX include a full array of power assists, cruise control, AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio with Sirius Satellite Radio, Bluetooth, USB/Aux inputs, 2nd-row captain's chairs and a backup warning system while the EX offers an upgraded sound system, power driver's seat, supplemental camera display in the rearview mirror, Homelink, a trip computer, roof rack, power rear quarter windows and a roof rack. Both Sedona models also come with a comprehensive group of safety features highlighted by stability/traction control and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.

The prime option group for the LX is a Power Package that nets dual power sliding doors, automatic light control, 17-inch alloy wheels and an auto-dimming mirror with backup display/HomeLink. The EX offers its own Luxury Package that includes a power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, power-adjustable pedals and a memory function for the driver's seat/mirrors. Buyers of the top-line Sedona also can opt for a navigation system that includes an Infinity premium audio package.

The 2014 Kia Sedona is scheduled to go on sale late this month. Pricing for the Sedona LX will start at $26,750 while the Sedona EX opens at $31,750.
