Starting Price: $24,765| Price Yours
Above Average: Safety, efficiency and reliability are all hallmarks of the 2019 Toyota Camry, plus V6 and hybrid power available.
Below Average: No all-wheel drive nor Android Auto.
Consensus: The 2019 Toyota Camry is the best version of the Camry yet. It’s sporty, fuel efficient and gets advanced driver assistance features as standard.
The 2019 Kia Optima gets a handsome new exterior as well as a suite of upgraded Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS) as standard including things like forward collision avoidance assistance, driver attention warning, and lane keeping assist. While most people may not consider the Optima a sport sedan, our editors think it comes awfully close. The transmission is smooth and responsive and the Optima offers four different driving modes that make it enjoyable to drive in a variety of conditions. The interior of the Optima has a ton of high-quality materials and includes a Harman Kardon sound system. For 2019 Kia updated it’s UVO infotainment system making it more user friendly, too.
The 2019 Toyota Camry is in its 8th generation and comes packed with features. Toyota has upgraded the styling and made the Camry sportier. It comes with an available V6 engine or hybrid and a wide variety of standard safety features packaged into Toyota’s Safety Sense-P (TSS-P) including adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, collision warning, emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning with steering assist. The interior is comfortable and modern and the 7- or 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system is easy to use. The 2019 Camry has better driving dynamics than its predecessors and delivers a more fun-to-drive experience. The steering is more precise and the new 8-speed automatic transmission is decent. Camry’s hybrid gains bragging rights as the first mid-size sedan to break the 50-mpg efficiency barrier and gets a 52-mpg rating from the EPA. That’s better than the hybrid Kia Optima.
Both vehicles are very well equipped at the entry level, especially when it comes to safety features. Neither one offers all-wheel drive, but both have a hybrid option.
Kia Optima Advantages
Good looking, tons of standard safety equipment and both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come as standard.
Toyota Camry Advantages
Great resale, reliability, and safety equipment.
We recommend the 2019 Toyota Camry over the 2019 Kia Optima in this comparison because of its reliability and resale value. The Camry continues to be the king of midsize sedans and it’s a tough vehicle to beat even if it doesn’t offer Android Auto.
