The 2019 Kia Optima gets a handsome new exterior as well as a suite of upgraded Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS) as standard including things like forward collision avoidance assistance, driver attention warning, and lane keeping assist. While most people may not consider the Optima a sport sedan, our editors think it comes awfully close. The transmission is smooth and responsive and the Optima offers four different driving modes that make it enjoyable to drive in a variety of conditions. The interior of the Optima has a ton of high-quality materials and includes a Harman Kardon sound system. For 2019 Kia updated its UVO infotainment system making it more user friendly, too. The 2019 Honda Accord however is one tough competitor because it just does so many things right. It has a potent-enough engine to make it easy to drive, and energetic at the same time, and you can get a variety of engines (hybrid or gasoline) to suit your daily driving needs. For 2019, the top of the line Touring model no longer offers the 1.5-liter engine, though.  The standard Honda Sensing suite bundles advanced safety and driver assistance technology including emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control. To many people’s joy, the Honda Accord gets a volume knob back, (which it had lost in previous years) and comes equipped with either a 7-inch or 8-inch infotainment screen depending on how you equip yours. The only niggling point of the interior is the push-button gear selector in the center console.  To get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto you’ll need to step up to the Accord Sport trim for $27,075. That price will also get you 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat, 8-inch touch-screen display and 19-inch wheels.

Similarities

Very competitively priced, great feature content at the base and mid-level and very good warranties.

Kia Optima Advantages

You don’t need to step up to a higher trim to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Honda Accord Advantages

Great resale, reliability, and safety equipment.

Final Recommendation

We recommend the 2019 Honda Accord over the 2019 Kia Optima in this comparison. While the Optima offers great content for a bit less money, the Accord is one of the best all-around vehicles and one of Kelley Blue Book's Best Buys for 2019.
