Mazda CX-9 takes SUVs in upscale direction

Have you always wanted a distinctive, luxury-brand SUV, but couldn’t quite stretch your budget that far? According to the subject of this audio interview, you might want to take a look at the upcoming Mazda CX-9.  At the recent Chicago auto show we got a chance to catch up with Robert T. Davis, senior vice president U.S. operations for Mazda North American Operations, and he gave us the lowdown on how Mazda has decided to approach this white-hot segment. Speaking with KBB’s Executive Editorial Director Jack R. Nerad on the floor of the Chicago auto show, Davis talks about the next-generation 2016 CX-9 in advance of its spring introduction. Among a crowded field of lookalikes, the CX-9’s well-tailored interior and exterior could put many luxury SUVs to shame, while on the technical front the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T turbocharged engine offers significant punch while delivering class-leading fuel-efficiency without a hybrid system. And Davis tells us how Mazda kept its “driver’s car” promise in its newest SUV.
