Jaguar Elegance, Power and Curves in a Smaller Package

Blending muscular curves, strong rear-drive performance and a modern, tech-friendly cabin, Jaguar’s latest foray into the small luxury sedan market is aimed most squarely at the legendary BMW 3 Series -- and the all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia. Available with three compelling engine choices, ranging from an efficient diesel to a thrilling 340-horsepower supercharged V6, the XE’s impressive handling and driving feel further qualify it as one of the segment’s most engaging driver’s cars. Long-term reliability and resale value remain to be seen, but such practical considerations are at best a secondary concern for most Jaguar shoppers.

Driving It

As we noted in our 2018 Jaguar XE review: "The XE 35t, with a 340-horsepower supercharged V6, records 0-60-mph blasts of five seconds. That engine is glorious in sound and performance, and pairs well with both the XE's excellent AWD system or in traditional rear-drive form."

Engine Variety

Jaguar is a company long known for performance, and the XE's available 340-horsepower supercharged V6 (380 horsepower in the S) lives up to the tradition behind the feline badge on the grille. If you want something a little more buttoned-down, the XE can accommodate: the base engine is a 247-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. The most frugal option is the turbodiesel engine, which provides fuel economy as good as 42 highway mpg.

Owners' Opinions

KBB.com visitor and Jaguar XE owner Ton-up has this to say about Jaguar's small luxury sedan: "Great appearance. Wonderful handling. AWD is essential in Colorado. Pulls like a train. Turbo lag takes some getting used to. Rear seats not big enough for long journeys. Very relaxed at speed. Super fuel economy - 40 mpg over first 2,000 miles." Read more Jaguar XE consumer reviews.

InControl Touch

Jaguar's latest infotainment system offers a much more intuitive way to control audio and navigation, through an 8-inch touch screen. It also offers gesture controls, is customizable and can work with a smartphone app.
