2019 Honda Pilot

Starting Price: $32,445 | Price yours

Above Average: Reliability, high resale, a suite of standard safety features and plenty of interior space make the Honda Pilot a great bet.

Below Average: A bit of a snooze to drive and the somewhat bulbous design isn’t for everyone.

Consensus: The 2019 Honda Pilot is still one of the most recommendable 3-row midsize SUVs.

2019 Subaru Ascent

Starting Price: $32,970 | Price yours

Above Average: Upscale, roomy enough for 8 people, tech loaded, and sportier than most midsize SUVs.

Below Average: Only one engine option and no hybrid.

Consensus: The 2019 Subaru Ascent is pretty much everything you could want including, comfort, safety, practicality and sportiness.  If you only need to use the third row for tiny humans, it’s a great buy.

The 2019 Subaru Ascent offers pretty much everything you could want in a 3-row SUV including, comfort, safety, practicality and sportiness.  Its Subaru’s first entry into the space, the 2019 Subaru Ascent is a great first effort and comes standard with AWD. It offers a good combination of sportiness thanks to the 260 horsepower 4-cylinder engine, comfort, safety (EyeSight comes standard), and versatility. It comes with tri-zone climate control and rear doors that open to 75-degrees making getting into the second and third rows a less acrobatic move. The Honda Pilot on the other hand, regularly wins the Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award in its segment because of its durability, class-leading reputation, and its long list of  available features. For 2019 Honda has replaced the annoying volume slider with a knob on the infotainment system, refreshed the front and rear fascia, and updated the previously cranky 9-speed automatic transmission. Honda has also made their suite top-of-the-line active safety and driver-assistance features standard on the 2019 Honda Pilot.
