The 2019 Honda HR-V combines a wealth of space, practicality and nice-enough interior to make it a good subcompact SUV. For 2019 the Honda HR-V gets some updated styling and, for those who can’t stand the sliding volume control on most Honda infotainment systems, a volume knob! They’ve also added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. To get safety features like forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning you have to step up to the EX trim level. The HR-V feels a bit underpowered and its 141-horsepower, 1.8-liter engine tends to feel sluggish when paired with Honda’s Continuously Variable Transmission. The ride, however, is comfortable and smooth. The interior space of the 2019 HR-V is ample for such a small SUV. Honda’s Magic Seat flips up so you can carry taller items in the second row, which makes the interior feel especially spacious. The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a carryover from 2018 and upper trims offer things like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mitsubishi also offers a pretty good AWD system as well. Where the Outlander Sport falls down is in the driver assistance department. At the base level, Mitsubishi doesn’t offer things like lane-departure warning, collision mitigation, and high-beam assist as standard and in fact only offers them on the highest trim. The Outlander Sport also struggles because the platform it’s built on is relatively old, having not been updated since 2011. If you spring for the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, step up to the 2.4-liter engine offered on the SE and SEL trims.

Similarities

Small SUVs that offer function and styling at a very good price.

Final Recommendation

In this case, its small dealer network, poor resale, somewhat less advanced driver assistance features and aging platform put the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport at the bottom rung of this comparison. The 2019 Honda HR-V is a better bet for interior versatility, resale value, and safety features.
