In addition to receiving a substantial exterior restyle and interior retrim for 2009, the versatile Honda Element is set to add a new line of canine-centric accessory items aimed at making it the new best bud of man's best friend. Due in the fall as a likely 2010 model, the Dog Friendly Element was designed to make it easier and safer for dog owners to bring their pets along wherever they travel. Although Honda is still finalizing the exact content of this new package, the concept displayed at the New York Auto Show included a comprehensive assortment of items that ranged from a cushioned pet bed in the cargo and special restraints there as well as in the second row to an extendable stowaway load-in ramp and a supplemental rear ventilation fan. Other features in the show Element included all-season rubber floormats with an embossed "bone" pattern throughout the rear quarters and a spill-resistant water bowl along with special "Dog Friendly" exterior badging. In 2007, the Element became the first-ever recipient of the "Dog Car of the Year"award from Dogcars.com. It would appear that Honda is hoping that history repeats itself.
