2019 Audi A6
Starting Price: $59,895 | Price Yours
Above Average: Performance, handling, advance electronic upgrades, stunning interior
Below Average: No V8 or plug-in hybrid option, small trunk, adding options can quickly get expensive
Consensus: A luxury sedan with impressive performance, technology and safety, and an interior as elegant as it is functional
The G80 is the middle child of the Genesis line, now eclipsed by the new G90 in size, price and flagship status. The G80 is more conservatively styled than the small G70, which fits nicely into its mission as a competitor to the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Lexus GS. On paper, the G80 holds up well, offering an impressive array of features, amenities and powertrains including a twin-turbo V6 and 420-horsepower V8. And while there’s no diesel or hybrid model, the savings buyers will realize from the G80’s lower price should be more than enough to offset the additional fuel costs. The G80 also has a superior warranty to its German and Japanese rivals, offering a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The Audi A6 costs more than the G80, is limited to a single engine choice and its standard features set isn’t as impressive. However, the A6 is a superior performer, especially in the curves. A new all-wheel drive system, called Quattro Ultra, disconnects the rear wheels when AWD isn’t necessary, helping save on fuel and tire wear. Audi’s interior designs are second to none, and its advanced electronics include a 48-volt mild-hybrid electrical system, optional Virtual Cockpit, haptic touch control screen and a full-color head-up display. The Audi name also carries considerable clout, especially with those who want their car to reflect their good taste and success.
Genesis G80 Advantages
The G80 costs less than a comparably equipped A6, and it offers two engine options beyond the standard V6 including a powerful V8. The G80 has a larger trunk, more front seat legroom and a longer standard warranty.
Audi A6 Advantages
The A6 offers better driving characteristics, more advanced electronics and driver safety features and a more polished interior. The A6 also gets better fuel economy and comes standard with all-wheel drive.
Both cars offer a turbocharged V6 engine, all-wheel drive and a number of standard driver assist features. Both offer high-end audio system, advanced infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and both deliver a comfortable ride and room for 5 passengers.
If you’re just looking for a bevy of upscale features and handsome styling at a really good price, the Genesis G80 will definitely accommodate you. But, if you’re looking for a premium luxury sedan with impressive handling, cutting-edge in-cabin electronics and a name that will impress your neighbors and colleagues, the Audi A6 is a clear choice.
