Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner to Improve Again for 2009

By Editors on April 21, 2009 9:20 AM
Although the Ford Escape and its Mercury Mariner sibling were both thoroughly updated for the 2008 model year, powertrain refinement remained a weak spot. So we're encouraged to learn that the 2009 models will be receiving a new four-cylinder engine good for 17 more horsepower (170), a revised 3.0-liter V6 that produces 30 more horsepower (230) and a new six-speed automatic transmission -- all promising smoother delivery and one more mpg. The '09 models are scheduled to go on sale Summer 2008 and offer SYNC and Sirius Travel Link for the first time. The hybrid models will also get a number of improvements.
