Above Average: Three row seating for as many as 8 people, much improved looks over previous generation, decent fuel economy, tons of optional family-friendly features
Below Average: Max tow capacity of just 5000 pounds and if you want to step up to the top trim for features like adaptive cruise control, it will cost you a pretty penny
Consensus: The 2019 Chevrolet Traverse has dropped 350-pounds, gained a ton of useable passenger and cargo space inside, and hustles a bit faster than the previous generation.
2019 Honda Pilot
Starting Price: $32,445 | Price yours
Above Average: Reliability, high resale, a suite of standard safety features and plenty of interior space make the Honda Pilot a great bet.
Below Average: A bit of a snooze to drive and the somewhat bulbous design isn’t for everyone.
Consensus: The 2019 Honda Pilot is still one of the most recommendable 3-row midsize SUVs and a regular winner of Kelley Blue Book’s Best Buy Award.
The Chevrolet Traverse is the largest 3-row crossover in the automakers line-up and it gets just a light refresh for 2019, after its more substantial makeover in 2018. That makeover resulted in more space, less weight and more power thanks to the peppy 3.6L V6 engine and a 9-speed automatic transmission that never hunts for the right gear. Chevy has cleverly added some hidden storage beneath the infotainment screen and upped its interior game with a sliding second row seat that makes getting to the third row that much easier. If you yanked the badges off the interior you might think you were in a higher priced vehicle. The Honda Pilot, on the other hand, regularly wins the Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award in its segment because of its durability, class-leading reputation, great resale and the long list of features it offers. For 2019 Honda has replaced the annoying volume slider with a knob on the infotainment system, refreshed the front and rear fascia, and updated the previously cranky 9-speed automatic transmission. Honda has also made their class leading active safety suite and driver-assistance features standard on the 2019 Honda Pilot.
Three-row, midsize SUVs packed with of creature comforts, safety features and space.
