Audi Q5 Diesel: Cross Your Fingers

In Europe, the quickest Audi Q5 is also the second most fuel-efficient example in the car's four-engine lineup. Such is the multi-faceted beauty of diesel. With the turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel engine, the Q5 will scoot past 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds and return highway fuel economy of 31 miles per gallon. Alas, when it comes to America in early 2009, Audi's new compact crossover will be offered exclusively with a familiar 3.2-liter gasoline V6 that should offer somewhat comparable acceleration but something closer to 24 mpg on the highway. That the diesel engine is going to be offered in Audi's larger Q7 starting early next year is reason to be optimistic that we'll eventually see it in the Q5, but rubbing your lucky rabbit's foot couldn't hurt.
