Best known for turning out legions of high-performance Mercedes-Benz vehicles, AMG excels in high-performance driving instruction, as well. While its previous efforts here in the states have been confined to less intensive AMG Challenge events, the organization will officially launch a full-blown version of its Euro-spec AMG Driving Academy here, starting next month. To be held at three racing circuits, Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, West Palm Beach in Florida and Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, each of these one- and two-day instruction packages go well beyond the AMG Challenge experiences they replace. With individual tutoring by professional racing drivers and loads of high-intensity track time, they're designed to hone the at-the-limit skills of any licensed driver behind the wheel of several of the latest AMG models, including the C63, E63, SL63 and CLK63 AMG Black Series. As an extra bit of enticement, those able to make it to the West Coast in mid-November will also be able to upgrade their experience to include driving the new 2011 SLS AMG Gullwing coupe months before it actually turns up in showrooms. Complete information on the dates, prices and other specifics of the AMG Driving Academy are available at amgacademy.com or by calling 1-800-217-6916.
