Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio priced for Europe
After its earlier reveal in Italy, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (4 leaf clover) was shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show and prices for its 2016 models, which go on sale in Europe this fall, were announced. Alfa is taking the unorthodox approach of selling only the top spec Quadrifoglio models, which feature a 510 horsepower twin turbo 2.9-liter V-6 developed in conjunction with Ferrari. Prices are expected to start at about 79,000 Euro ($88,700) with fully optioned versions topping out at 95,000 Euro ($106,670).
U.S. spec versions of the car are expected later in 2016 as 2017 models. No timing or specifications were announced for less powerful models in the range.
High performance levels
Alfa executives reiterated much of the performance data released at the earlier reveal indicating that the car will be capable of 0-62 mph acceleration in 3.9 seconds and will have a top speed of 190 mph. The Quadrifoglio will come with a 6-speed manual transmission only.
Other features include a multi-driving mode switch that includes settings for Dynamic, Normal and Advanced Efficiency as well as a Race mode, where all driver assists are deactivated. The new Giulia comes with adaptive shocks, cylinder deactivation that saves fuel in light load conditions, torque vectoring, active aerodynamic devices like a front splitter that lowers at speed and integrated braking assist that shortens stopping distances.
50/50 weight distribution
Despite its front engine placement, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio boasts a 50/50 weight distribution thanks to the extensive use of aluminum, carbon fiber and lightweight high strength steel in the body. Curb weight for the 4-door sedan is just 3,360 pounds.
Among the features on the new Alfa Giulia is the Connect 3D Navigation system which uses an 8.8-inch TFT screen integrated into the dashboard and operated by moving your fingers on the Rotary Pad. The system also incorporates voice and gesture recognition as control strategies. The Giulia will also offer a high-end Harmon Kardon sound system with a 12-channel amplifier and 14 speakers.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio models on display at Frankfurt featured all five of the launch colors: Competizione Red, Torfeo White, Volcano Black, Vesuvio Gray and Montecarlo Blue with contrasting leather and Alcantara interiors.
More details are expected to be forthcoming on both the high-performance Quadrifoglio models and the rest of the range as we get closer to the on sale date.
