2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Buyer's Guide

A 3 Series Rival With Plenty of Italian Flair

Alfa Romeo is slowly returning to the American market, and with the new Giulia it hopes to steer some shoppers away from well-established entry-lux sedans like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. The Alfa Romeo name alone gives the Giulia an inherent air of exclusivity, but it backs up the expectations set forth by its Italian heritage and curvaceous styling with standout performance and driving dynamics. Practical considerations like long-term reliability and actual resale value remain to be seen, but for buyers attracted to the hottest and newest cars a segment has to offer, the Giulia will never be as appealing as it is right now.

Behind the Wheel

"The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia has a tidy footprint. Its compact size, snug sport seats and responsive steering are the stuff of which legendary sports sedans are made. In base rear-drive form or the slightly tauter Ti versions in either rear- or optional all-wheel drive, the Giulia provides spirited handling and a relaxed ride thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution and a willing 280-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine." Quadrifoglio Verde

The first variant of the Giulia that went on sale in the U.S. is also the most potent. The rear-drive-only Quadrifoglio Verde (the name means "green 4-leaf clover") has 505 horsepower coming from its Ferrari-sourced 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. As noted in KBB's first review of the Giulia, "Where the QV really comes into its own is on the race track. We had an opportunity for some hot laps at Sonoma Raceway and the hottest Giulia did not disappoint. The car is quick, agile and handles at the limit and beyond, allowing for some tail-out cornering if you dare to put it in race mode. The potent V6 enables the car to sprint to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 191 mph."

Build and Price

The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia starts around $39,000 tops out at over $87,000 for a fully loaded Quadrifoglio Verde. Build and price your own 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia to unlock this week's Fair Purchase Price for your area and compare its 5-Year Cost to Own with the competition.
