2019 Acura MDX

Starting Price: $45,295 | Price yours

Above Average: Reliability, good resale, a ton of premium amenities and decent safety features that undercut most of the fancier German brands

Below Average: Less cachet than BMW, Audi, or Mercedes-Benz, seats only 7, tows no more than 5,000 pounds

Consensus: It may have less label recognition than some European competitors, but the Acura MDX gets points for reliability and above average resale.

2019 Infiniti QX60

Starting Price: $44,995 | Price yours

Above Average: Lots of style, comfort, and safety features, seating for 7 and really good handling

Below Average: Not-so-great fuel economy, no V8, diesel or hybrid option

Consensus: The Infiniti QX60 wraps performance and luxury into a practical and affordable 7-passenger SUV.

When it comes to reliability and resale value, Acura (under the Honda brand) has both in spades. The Acura MDX gets a new 9-speed automatic transmission for 2019 and its stop/start system has been further refined to make the feature faster. It also comes with a standard V6 engine and has an advanced AWD system that makes the MDX feel more athletic than it might appear to be. All models come standard with AcuraWatch, a host of active-safety features that include forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane-departure warnings, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Inside you get ample passenger room and comfortable seats — especially those in the front with 14-way adjustments. While the infotainment and climate control system takes some getting used to, overall the 2019 Acura MDX is a good bet for hauling 7 people. Like the MDX, the 2019 Infiniti QX60 offers a smooth ride, powerful engine and comes very well equipped. At its base level it comes with standard safety features like forward-collision warning, blind spot monitoring and emergency braking. The QX60 is one of the better handling SUVs on the market but it has a harsher ride than a few of its competitors. Inside the QX60 is plush with modern touches even at the base level. Buyers also get heated and cooled seats, power-folding side mirrors, power moonroof and a power liftgate at the base level, called Pure. One of the best features of the QX60 is its intelligent cruise control, available when you step up to the Luxe trim. The system maintains a set distance between you and the car in front of you fairly smoothly, compared to others systems on the market.

Similarities

Luxurious touches both inside and out for both the Acura MDX and the Infiniti QX60 make either one a great luxury 7-passenger SUV for an affordable price.

Acura MDX Advantages

A comfortable ride, great reliability and resale.

2019 Infiniti QX60 Advantages

Luxurious interior, very well equipped at the entry level, and space for 5 adults and 2 kids.

Final Recommendation

The Acura MDX beats the Infiniti QX60 in this comparison. Our reviewers liked the 14-way adjustable seats in the MDX and wished that the QX60 had more adjustments (especially lumbar). The MDX also offers better fuel economy than the QX60, and the Infiniti’s stiffer ride can make the QX a bit more uncomfortable for passengers on long rides.
