2018 Volvo V90 Makes U.S. Debut
Revealed in Euro trim at the Geneva Auto Show last March, the all-new 2018 Volvo V90 Wagon makes its first appearance in U.S. guise in Detroit. To be offered here in R-Design and Inscription trims, the new V90 will come in T5 and T6 configurations. Like the S90 Sedan, the T5 has front-wheel drive and is fitted with 250-horsepower turbocharged version of Volvo’s Drive-E 2.0-liter engine while the AWD T6 gets its motivation from 316-horse supercharged and turbocharged version of that same engine. Both are backed by an 8-speed automatic transmission. Like its sedan sibling, the V90 will feature a premium cabin treatment highlighted by Volvo’s 12.0-inch Sensus Connect Touchscreen infotainment system, Nappa leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim.
Volvo plans to conduct a unique rollout program for the new V90 Wagon. Ordering will begin sometime during the first quarter but initially be done either through Volvo’s Online Concierge service or as part of its European Delivery program with vehicles expected to reach customers sometime this summer. Although it had previously confirmed the V90 Wagon would offer some type of Polestar performance optimization, Volvo did not provide details about what that upgrade might entail or exactly when we might see it here. We’re also awaiting confirmation regarding the likelihood of a T8 Twin-Engine Plug-in Hybrid version of the new V90.
“Wagons are an important part of Volvo’s history” noted Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “After successfully launching the XC90 SUV, S90 Sedan and most recently V90 Cross Country, we complete our ‘90’ range with the introduction of our new luxury wagon. As we now introduce the most luxurious wagon ever, we choose to do so giving our customers a range of personalized order production alternatives. This way we provide the fullest range of options to wagon lovers."
