2018 Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet: Off-road indulgence
Showing the potential of its ultra-luxury Maybach sub-brand, Mercedes unveiled the limited-edition G 650 Landaulet in Geneva. Based on the iconic G-Class and confined to just 99 units, this super-capable, super-lux adventure machine melds the best mechanicals from the G500 4x42 and AMG G63 6x6 with Maybach luxury to create a truly unique 4-passenger all-terrain runner.
While the front-seat passengers hardly lack for amenities, it’s the rear passengers in the Landaulet that are truly pampered. A pair of individual rear seats from the S-Class covered in Designo-grade two-tone leather offer full power adjustability including active multi-contour bolsters, movable calf/leg rests, heating/cooling/massage capability. The G 650 Landaulet’s 22.75-inch wheelbase stretch provides loads of extra legroom. For added privacy, the deployable glass partition separating the two cabin sections can be electro-chromatically turned from clear to opaque, and whether the Landaulet’s handcrafted power top is open or shut, rear-seat occupants can enjoy the Individual Entertainment System that features a pair of 10.0-inch high-res video displays.
As for its go-anywhere potential, the G 650 Landaulet packs a 621-horsepower Mercedes-AMG V12 Biturbo engine and sends motive force to each wheel via axles that provide 17.75 inches of ground clearance. Rounding out the mix is a dual-range transfer case, 7-speed automatic transmission three fully-locking differentials and 325/55 all-terrain tires wrapped around 22-inch alloy wheels. Production of the 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet is set to start this fall and pricing is rumored to start in excess of $500,000.
