2018 Ford Focus RS Special Edition Unveiled
With a new generation Focus heading to showrooms for 2019, Ford announced a fitting farewell for the hottest member of the current iteration with the Focus RS Limited Edition. The only form of 2018 Focus RS to be sold here, it retains the existing 350-horsepower, 2.3-liter Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission but gains a number of performance tweaks that bolster its capabilities.
The most prominent hardware upgrade on the Focus RS Limited Edition is a new Quaife mechanical limited-slip front differential. Integrated with the car’s existing all-wheel drive setup with dynamic torque vectoring and control, the setup allows this hot hatchback to transfer torque to the front tire with the best available grip, enabling the car to slice through corners with greater speed and confidence.
Available in new Race Red or signature Nitrous Blue exterior colors, the 2018 Focus RS Limited Edition also features 19-inch painted forged alloy wheels with blue RS center caps. The package features a gloss black roof, mirror caps and rear roof spoiler that gains blue RS logos on its side wings. Inside, the Limited Edition comes with the full RS2 Package including black leather trimmed heated Recaro sport buckets, 8-way power driver’s seat, heated steering wheel/mirrors and voice-activated Sync 3 Navigation. Carbon fiber accents on the door handles, brake lever and boost gauge bezel add to the cabin’s sporty look.
Ford will cap production on the 2018 Focus RS Limited Edition to 1,000 units for the U.S. and 500 for Canada. Buyers can order the cars starting this summer with deliveries late this year. Official pricing has not been released, but a Ford source indicates the cars will likely carry a $4,000-$5,000 premium over the $36,995 for a 2017 Focus RS.
