While Mazda may have introduced the MX-5 Miata RF (Retractable Fastback), Fiat is adding a lid to the 124 range through its Abarth performance unit. The 2018 Fiat Abarth 124 GT bowed in Geneva sporting a removable carbon fiber hardtop for the roadster that is built alongside the Miata by Mazda. The car retains its standard manual fold-down soft-top.

Painted Alpi Orientali Gray, the Abarth 124 GT combines the lightweight carbon fiber top with other upgrades that include 17-inch OZ Ultra-Light alloy wheels, special gun metal colored mirror caps that match the front spoiler and an optional matte black finish to the hood. Fiat says the carbon fiber top weighs just over 35 pounds and can be attached and detached in a few simple steps. The top is also lined, features a larger rear window with a built-in defroster.

The mechanicals on the Fiat Abarth 124 GT remain stock with a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 170 horsepower. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or automatic sequential shift gearbox. While the package will be available this year in Europe, Fiat USA has not announced if it will offer this option in the American market.
