Debuting at the North American International Auto Show, where it will join the other all-new 2017 BMW 5 Series models, the 2018 BMW M550i xDrive brings a new level of intensity to the mix. Motive force heads to all four corners of BMW’s through a rear-biased intelligent xDrive AWD system working in concert with an Adaptive M Sport suspension that drops ride height by nearly half an inch. The car’s M-specific power steering unit sharpens response when the M550i xDrive’s Driving Dynamics Control is set in Sport or Sport+ modes and M Sport disc brakes with distinctive Blue Metallic calipers are on hand to serve up consistent stopping power. While the M550i xDrive rolls on a standard 19-inch wheels and tires, buyers also can opt for a 20-inch upfit.
To add visual edge to the exterior, the M550i xDrive gets an M Performance Aerodynamic kit that includes a functional decklid spoiler along with a grille frame, Air Breather accents and mirror caps rendered in exclusive Cerium Grey with Gloss Black Shadow Line trim around the windows. Distinctive Black chrome exhaust tips for the sta and M550i badges round out the mix. Inside, the M550i xDrive bolsters all of the driver-focused design features of the new 5 Series with standard nulti-contour seats in Black Dakota leather or optional light Nappa leather, the latest M Sport steering wheel, an aluminum pedal set, custom mats and illuminated “M550i xDrive” door-sill plates.
Like its new 530i and 540i siblings, the M550i offers a comprehensive array of driver assists including Active Driving Assistant Plus that includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Evasion Aid and Active Lane Keeping Assistant as well as the automaker’s Remote Control Parking system along with the latest iteration of BMW Connected and its bounty of apps.
