Debuting at the North American International Auto Show, where it will join the other all-new 2017 BMW 5 Series models, the 2018 BMW M550i xDrive brings a new level of intensity to the mix. First-ever M Performance 5 Series, this range-topping variation on the BMW’s midsize sedan is touted as the fastest and most agile non-M5 model to date. Like all M Performance vehicles, it blends a potent engine and chassis tweaks with cosmetic and functional touches.

Leveraging M Performance

Bred to be quick as well as fast, the M550i xDrive packs a specially modified version of BMW’s M Performance 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8. Here, it cranks out 456 horsepower compared to the 440 ponies produced by its counterpart in the previous-generation 550i model. While torque holds at a stout 480-lb-ft, that peak twist comes on at just 1,800 rpm. Backed by a specially tuned and paddle-shift Steptronic Sport 8-speed transmission programmed to deliver even quicker cog changes, the M550i xDrive sprints from 0-60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds and has a top end of 155 mph.
