Volvo continues to leverage its enthusiast-focused Polestar partner with news that the new 2017 S90 Sedan and 2018 V90 Wagon models will offer Polestar “Performance Optimization” upgrades. Although not quite as overt as the Polestar models offered for Volvo’s S60/V60, the drivetrain tuning tweaks developed for the automaker’s new flagship sedan and wagon focus on five different functional areas, enhancing each to impart “a better, more balanced and dynamic driving experience.”

Response-quickening Polestar software upgrades start with the throttle which reacts more quickly and precisely to driver input on acceleration. Gear changes on the 8-speed automatic also occur more quickly and cleanly with the Polestar package while a “hold” function prevents unwanted cog changes during hard cornering that can potentially unsettle the vehicle. While Volvo and Polestar have not confirmed any power boost, it’s rumored the force-fed 4-cylinder Drive-E engines in the S90 and V90 may see a bump in mid-range performance to aid off-the-line acceleration and overtaking maneuvers.

No word yet on what this latest round of Polestar enhancements will add to the sticker price of either vehicle or exactly when they’ll be available here, however the most likely ETA looks to be sometime next year.
