Expanding the scope of its entry-level Mirage line, the new G4 Sedan debuted in U.S. trim at the New York Auto Show. “A few years ago we entered the subcompact segment with the Mirage hatchback and its popularity with consumers has grown every year with its combination of top fuel economy, attractive pricing and one of the industry’s best new car warranties. The new Mirage G4 repeats that value equation in a 4-door sedan package,” noted MMNA executive vice president, Don Swearingen at the reveal.

Already on sale in Canada and several other world markets, the new Mirage G4 Sedan shares its basic mechanical elements with the also-upgraded 2017 Mirage hatch. That includes a revised 1.2-liter/3-cylinder engine that now makes 78 horsepower – up from 74 in 2016 -- which can be sent to the front wheels via the standard 5-speed manual transmission or optional CVT automatic. The latter combination places the G4 at the top of its class in EPA stats and CO2 emission levels, according to Mitsubishi. The same suspension retuning and larger front brakes fitted to the 2017 Mirage 5-door also appear here, promising better handling and stopping performance.

The wide-ranging upgrades on the Mirage 5-door extends to the G4 Sedan’s cabin as well, where richer fabrics and a new steering wheel are complemented by the availability of support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps using its new Display Audio system. The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Sedan goes on sale this spring. Final pricing and EPA numbers have yet to be released.
