2017 Kia Cadenza Limited Long-Term Update: Comfort

It hasn’t taken long for the 2017 Kia Cadenza to establish a reputation as the go-to car for either road trips or comfortable commuting. This large 4-door family sedan offers a great blend of style, creature comforts and front and rear space to win the admiration of even those who’d rather be driving a sports car or some sort of off-roader as their primary transport.

The benefits of Cadenza, readily apparent in some of the longer freeway commutes by some of the staff, also serve the car well in weekend road trips, like our recent outing to Scottsdale, Arizona. Thanks to the car’s smooth ride and features like its adaptive cruise control, the nearly six hours in the saddle passed by quickly with little or no fatigue. The front buckets are comfortable and supportive and the power passenger side adjustments made dropping the seatback for a snooze a breeze.

Good power and economy

The 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6 is well matched to the car and thanks to the 8-speed automatic transmission had enough cogs to make mid-range passing effortless. We were able to cruise along between 70 and 80 mph in a relatively serene cabin while returning just over 30 mpg on the freeway stretches. The only bit of noise to intrude was some tire slap over a section of rippled pavement somewhere east of downtown Phoenix. Once the road smoothed out though, the quiet returned.

While the car drives like a slightly larger midsize Optima, the rear seat room is exceptional. And the trunk proved most accommodating in swallowing up a couple of overnight duffels and a set of golf clubs along with a rather large wall hanging packaged in a flat but wide box we picked up at an art fair along the way. The hands free trunk, like adaptive cruise, is also one of those features that you wonder how you got along without before you experienced it.

All told, the Kia Cadenza has settled in for a productive stay as part of the KBB long term fleet. We look forward to more road trips and adventures with this handsome sedan.
